Literature Analysis of 35 Cases of Adverse Drug Reaction/Event Induced by Brucea Javanica for Topical Use

Abstract: ObjectiveTo investigate the epidemiological characteristics of adverse drug reactions/event(ADR/ADE)induced by Brucea javanica. MethodsWith retrospective case study, analyzed 35 cases of ADR/ADE induced by Brucea javanica, which were searched from Chinese Journal Full-text Database between1958 and 2012. Results29 cases were acute allergy, including 20 allergic shock cases. Acute allergy usually occurred in 60 min after drug treatment, 18 cases occurred in 5 min after drug treatment. 4 cases were acute eye injury, manifested as eye pain, foreign body sensation, photophobia, blurred vision and severe vision loss. Other clinical manifestations were epidermolytic necrotizing dermatitis(1case) and right lower limb swelling(1 case). ConclusionBrucea javanica for topical use may induce serious ADR/ADE, which should be strengthened to observe and evaluate.
