Clinical Application and Adverse Reaction Analysis of Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma Based on Ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine Books and Modern Literature

Abstract: Objective To provide reference for rational clinical application of Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma. Methods By combing clinical application and safety information in ancient traditional Chinese medical books and modern literatures, the similarities and differences of Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma clinical application and safety in ancient and modern were compared. Results The clinical application of Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma reported in the ancient books and modern literature were basically same. However, compared with ancient books, there were more adverse reactions reported in modern literature. Its mainly symptoms were gastrointestinal reactions which were all caused by compound preparation. Conclusion The application of Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma in compound preparation may increase the possobility of adverse reactions. We need to pay more attention on the compatibility of Polygoni Cuspidati Rhizoma as well as dosage during the clinical utilization.
