Abstract: Objective To compare the content of toxical substances and the acute toxicity of Shandong Pinelliae's different extractions, and discuss the extraction's influences on the content of toxical substances and acute toxicity. Methods UV method, HPLC method, acid -base titration and the classical method of acute toxicity were used to determine the content of toxical substances and compare the acute toxicity of Pinelliae and its extraction. Results The content of total organic acid, total alkaloid and vernine is: Pinelliae> extraction;the content of amber acid and ephedrine is: extraction>Pinelliae .The MLD of Pinelliaeis 301.2g/kg,and its extraction is 374.4g/kg, which is respectively equal to2 342.7 times, 2 912.0 times of 70kg people's daily dried medicinal herb expenses. Conclusion Extraction has certain influence on the content of toxical substances and acute toxicity of Pinelliae, and the toxicity of Pinelliaeis higher than its extraction.
