Abstract: Objective To approach the status and roles of modern analytical techniques in researching for toxicology of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Methods Collect, and summarize domestic related literature of the last decade. Results Ultraviolet Spectrophotometry(UV), Atomic Absorption Spectrometry(AAS), Fluorescence Spectroscopy(FS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC), Gas Chromatography(GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatogr-aphy-Mass Spectrometry(HPLC-MS), Gas Chromatography -Mass Spectrometry(GC-MS) and Molecular Biology Techniques ( MBT) are commonly used in toxicology of Traditional Chinese Medicine sdudies, in which HPLC, GC -MS, HPLC -MS are the most widely used. Conclusion Modern analytical techniques in the study of vivo process of Traditional Chin-ese Medicine plays an important role, mainly for the determination of the concentration of toxic substances in blood or liver, kidney and other important tissue; And with the developmentof modern analytical techniques and the improvement of the sensitivity of analytical instruments, they will promote the further development of toxicology of Traditional Chinese Medicine. With the establishment and discoveries of new theories and new technology of modern toxicology, modern analytical techniques will play an more important role in Toxicodynamics (TD) and Toxicokinetics(TK) studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and plays an irreplaceable effect.
