Pharmaceutical care of a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated with a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine during acute exacerbation of gout

Abstract

Abstract: Objective To explore the role of clinical pharmacists in the treatment of a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the acute exacerbation stage of gout. Methods Clinical pharmacists participated in the treatment of a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the stage of acute exacerbation, analyzed the drug-related causes of poor blood glucose control, studied the effect of hypoglycemic drugs on blood uric acid, recommended switch to SGLT-2i and optimized the Chinese and Western medicine regimens for hypoglycemic and gout treatment. Results The symptoms of swelling and pain were significantly alleviated, and the blood glucose decreased steadily. Conclusion Clinical pharmacists can play an active role in clinical treatment by participating in the pharmaceutical care of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus during acute exacerbation of gout, assisting physicians in optimizing treatment plans, and providing individualized medication to patients.
